OSC / MIDI Mapping on a dynamic column Setup

Post by Dalien »

Hey folks,

Don't really know how to explain the issue through a headline. So sorry if that's not clear and I can explain it better in context.

Once in a while we are working for Theaters and play our content based on cues happening on stage. So no playback and pre programmed durations are possible. We still have some parts where we want to use Fader- and Layercontrols with MIDI / OSC Mapping.

What worked best for our last shows was to put our cued content on one layer and use the ability to switch through the columns with one click. Like I said sometimes there are "fixed" clips over different layer I want to control through a pre programmed button.

Now here is my problem. When rehearsing our Setup and the sorting is dynamic. Which means, sometimes our director wants us to add or remove a cue in between. So for example, If I have some programmed Buttons in Column 10 and want to add another column after Column 5 my clips will be sorted into Column 11, but the pre programmed buttons will stay in Column 10 which means I will have to re-map them everytime I add or remove a column.

Is there any way to map the buttons to a clip and not to a specific layer / column? Or to say Resolume that the Mapping should stay on that Clip? In OSC it's even harder because you have to type in the absolut layer and column in the shortlink. We were thinking about using Vezer to program a final timeline. But then we will have to update the whole links if one column will be added or removed.

How are you guys handle that !? Would love to know.

Best Dani

There are the "This.." shortcut targets which you can try for Midi shortcuts: https://resolume.com/support/en/midi-shortcuts

The use case you describe sounds like what I've used to do working in a theatre a lot. Inserting clips and columns, is indeed not easy to manage if you remote control Resolume.
What I've done to make my life easier, was writing this program: http://palffyzoltan.hu/?url=controller
It has a bi-directional OSC support for column launches and a some other stuff. Basically it can update the cue list automatically when you add a new column, and a clip into the top or bottom layer.

You can also try to use the next, and previous column buttons on the composition. But that can get hard to follow on the master machine.
