VSYNC / Screen Tearing

Making a new discussion so we don't clutter the benchmark topic.

I made some recordings of the benchmark with VSYNC - Off, On and Adaptive, getting them OFF my Tricaster is proving to be tricky. Recorded in Quicktime 4:2:2, MPEG2 4:2:2 and H264 4:2:2, but as soon as I copy them to an external drive it won't copy with "properties" which makes black movies on other computers, I will try and solve this so people can see the results

BUT,

On my Tricaster control screens I do see screen tearing in the Benchmark and with other content (but only on the control screen. 60Hz refresh rate). All of my video is 30fps or 60fps (logos are made into 2 sec 60fps DXV3 files). I cannot see screen tearing on screens the Tricaster broadcasts to. That could be because of other equipment involved (in order)
Tricaster output 720p@60 component
Extron MTP T 15HD RS (Component over CAT5)
Knox Technologies Media Flex 16 (16x16 component switcher)
ZeeVee ZvPro280 out to RF combiner for TV signals (so you can pickup the feed on a channel)
About 40 TVs total

The screen tearing on the Tricaster itself could be a result of the BMD DVI etxender refresh mismatch. I run into issues with this device often. Although its native resolution is 1080i (1920x1080) @30Hz, if it gets unpowered the tricaster will read it as either 1080i (SDI) or 1080/30p (SDI). May end up switching this for an AJA HDMI converter.

2 layers of video (using VJ Survival Kit 2) and 1 static client logo (2sec DXV3 at 60fps)

VSYNC off, 90fps, screen tearing visible until it reaches the static logo then disappears
VSYNC on, 60fps, screen tearing visible until it reaches the static logo then disappears
VSYNC adaptive, 60fps, screen tearing visible until it reaches the static logo then disappears

I never see screen tearing on any of my LED
Display Frequency for my 6mm is 240Hz (after a LOT of testing/configuration changes this is best solution for brightness AND for the screen to look good in pictures/video -- it's chinese LED, runs on 208V)
Display Frequency for my 4mm is 60Hz, which sometimes looks bad in photos - depends on the camera mans shutter speed. Looks fine in video. Same chinese LED (still working on this one for best solution, may have to wait until I convert from 120V to 208V for this screen)

If by control screen you mean the Res interface, tearing is expected there. We don't v-sync the preview.

I meant the Tricaster control screen (don't notice it on in the Resolume preview at all).

I still haven't been able to pull anything but black video from stuff I've recorded on the Tricaster itself, but here's some fun cellphone footage of it happening last night. It doesn't happen anywhere else but on the Tricaster itself for me (both at 60Hz). Screens that are after the Tricaster don't have the problem. Neither do my LED. This is with VSYNC set to On right now, running at 60fps in Resolume

EDIT: My VSYNC issues disappeared after swapping out the BMD DVI Extender for an AJA HA5-Plus. First tested for 12 hours with VSYNC on, now it has been running for 12ish hours with VSYNC off and no tearing at all
