The build with the Threadripper cpu and the X399 motherboard is working out around $500 cheeper than the I9-7900X with the X299 motherboard.

How do you come up with $500

Market prices:

PRIME X299-DELUXE: $475
I9-7900X: $960
Total: $1,425

MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC: $350
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X 12-Core: $800
Total: $1,150

Difference $285

Origin just sticks it into a $400 35lbs startech case and charges you whatever they want heh. Market value is meaningless.
Went to their configuration chose their 4u startech case. Chose x299. Next window chose i9-7900 got $2,662
Went back did it again for x399. Next window chose threadripper 1920x 12 core got $2,705.

So not sure what he's seeing unless hes swapping around motherboard options on the page you choose the cpu.


I sorta cringe when I see pre built enthusiast computer prices.
You can build a pretty legit VJ pc with just the cost of the over priced case, motherboard and cpu.

For fun went to new egg, picked out a Asus motherboard around $335. Then a 1920x for $799. Then added in the fact protocase will freakin build you a custom 4u server case for $1,000. Even picked out a Corsair HX 1200w for $239. Funny how even that is cheaper then both of those Origin builds at that stage.

If he builds a threadripper machine I hope he comes back and reports if it was worth it. I'm actually curious.
If he has problems I hope Origin's technician shows up with a free lunch. ^^

I'd recommend 4u pelican racks with casters when it's done since it's gona weigh 80lbs.
Maybe also swap the fans with corsair ML pro's since events aren't very silent and at least the ML's will last eternity or some industrial model noctuas.

No need for TB3 in a rack PC.
Native PCIe is better than PCIe packed into TB3 and this small flimsy connector. After i added descent PCIe cards, i forgot about TB buit into Motherboard. I got less delay and more stability.
TB is a must only for laptop.

Sorry, but i edit second part of my post, Resolume 6 just changed everything, with new multithreaded 64-bit engine you can invest in multicore i7-i9-Xeons and memory.
Redundant PSU is a good idea also.
Save money for Datapath FX4 - it is a brilliant piece of hardware and must have for multi-output systems!

Do you mean 40 rather than 28 PCIE lanes on an X99 Motherboard?

More bandwidth for PCIe expansions. As a example, two 16x GPU would take 32 lanes when running at 16x/16x!

You mean if use two graphic cards? But if I want to use only one gtx 1060 for example and five cupture cards? Need I 40 PCI lines?
