Yes, a bit expensive. But there are some very powerfull frame grabbers to replace the 'record button' if your case need it. We're talking about 2000 usd, or so.

I haved this weird behaviour droping random JPG files, and with PNGs before reflattened in photoshop. Take care that a PNG file isn't a flat thing. The specification allows several channels (indexed, grayscale and truecolor, alpha), and a lot of variables (interlaced, compression, etc). I don't know...

I have the same issue.
Actually, I think the best solution is get a frame grabber like this, and record on a desktop machine.

Paulo, I have the same setup described on top (2400x600 through a TH2GO).
Yes, you can make some simple png masks for edge blending, and use one layer per clip adjusting the size and position. Anyway, take a look at this threat

sequenced full HD Quicktime loops "live" in Ableton Live and then rendered it as video
I want to know how they rendered that. Are they capturing in some way the performance?
Or they just pass from Resolume in this case?

There are many people capturing the resolume output (full second screen) and sending it to another app for video mapping. In fact, you can do that in vvvv. I suppouse that there's a way to sendit through a dv stream.
