clip and layer preview works fine so far... the only think i can notice is that performance goes down with an active opened preview window... would be nice to have a option for deactivating preview after 60 seconds or so for slower machines... the problem with animated thumbnails lies on the hand......

for example you can save money by buying a used one gtx580... should be about the half price of the GTX680 and should also do the Work.

maybe your source footage isn't really black/white... try to add a levels effect before to get a proper black/white contrast

your composition needs to be 960x576 if you can use the workflow cosmo has mentioned 800x384 on the upper composition half (you simple need to position and crop the layers so that it fits your needs) and under this 2 960x96 stripes... you can also arrange it side by side but you would need 2720x384 ...

as far as i know there are shuttle usb3 drivers... but no avalable macbook with the right usb3 chipset.
only possible on the last macbooks with pc express slot (and they don't have thunderbolt) or a mac pro with additional nec usb3 card.
