Check out the Korg MicroKontrol as well, it's a 37 key keyboard that also has a bunch of faders, knobs and 16 pressure pads. Not necessarily the best for music, but very handy for controlling VJ software.

Also - the standard S-Video cables won't work with some ATI cards, you need to use the special S-Video + composite cable that came with the card.

Yes, playback is normal for me too. But it is a bit confusing for trying to figure out the behaviour of an animated slider.
