You could do this with Visution's IR OSC SA as well

Put all of your effects midi mappings on Composition Midi mapping and then the reset on Application Midi Mapping. This lets you have multiple keys assigned to the same parameter

-IR OSC SA for automating parameters in resolume
-FrParameters for transforming before/after other effects. I use this one the most
-Vignette for soft edges and semi-circular cropping
-Strobe... Because resolume doesnt have a cowbell

I know this isnt what youre looking for but it may solve an issue of your's in the future. I use IR OSC SA quite a bit to automate things in resolume. Off the top of my head I cant remember if you are able to change the port.

I've done this in the past using the same method that Raven suggested. The vast majority of the composition will be compatible with R4. R4 runs way better than R5 on older hardware

You might be able to calculate the length by measuring rate of increase from 0 to 1.0. For example... Our reference media, Clip A, is 10 seconds long. It will take 1 second for the OSC value to go from 0.0 to 0.1 Clip B has an unknown length. However, we can see it only took a half second for the OS...

An alternative that might work for you is removing files from the vfx folder. This should let you pick and choose just the ones you need.
