If you keep getting blue screen errors there should be a setting for SATA that gives you two options - ACHI or ATA. Try messing with that setting and let us know how it goes. On a side note, I bought a new Toshiba that came with Vista loaded on it. There where no video card drivers available for XP ...

USB 2.0 is rated at 480mbs. It's primary use is for data transfer. Firewire400 is rated at 400mbs but it's primary use is for multimedia.
