On OSX 10.9 Mavericks, Apple has decided ( in their infinite wisdom ) that it currently does not support 3rd party codecs for the system players.

DXV encoded files will play fine in apps that support the old version of Quicktime, but not in Quicklook, Finder or Quicktime Player X.

We're not happy about this at all, but for the moment our hands are tied. Apple has shut out all 3rd party devs for native system video playback...

Does this mean that soon DXV files will also not be played by Resolume itself with Macs running Maverics or the new version of QT?

Of course not. Resolume will always be able to play DXV files.

What about encoding DXV from other applications as After Effects and Final Cut Pro?

The encoding works, iv'v just tested in compressor 4 and MPEG Streamclip with mavericks and the latest version of compressor!

About the thumbnails and quicktime playing i'm curious about what you guys will do about this, there has to be a solution for this, it's your codec, i can't be waiting a toon of month without not being able to "see" my library or "preview" it with fast view!

We know this is a very big problem.

The situation is that Apple has closed off playback of DXV (and all other codecs aside from a few Apple ones) inside the system player. This is because internally they have started using a new playback system.

There is absolutely nothing we can currently do about this. Only Apple can decide to open up the system player again in the future.

If your workflow depends on Quicklook and Quicktime Player X, the only option you have is to downgrade back to 10.8.

Well, this is a very good reason for not to upgrade to Mavericks. Thanks Apple! What if a company like Microsoft would dare to do that... I really loved the idea of native tags in finder. Will continue to use PathFinder :)

Thanks for starting this thread!!

Any way to use another player like VLC to play DXV files?
