New Mac, Mavericks, Quicktime Player can't open DXV files

Post by robotkid »

Hey gang,

Got a new MBP. I copied over my old mac to this new one, and most things seem to work fine, but any time I try to play a DXV Quicktime, Quicktime barfs up an error saying it can't open the file. Also, in the finder the icons for any DXV movies are generic, rather than sills of the 1st frame. I've re-installed DXV, and Resolume. The movies play fine in Resolume or MpegStreamclip. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

-Josh

Mavericks doesn't support 3rd party codecs for quick look i've heard. Personally I wouldn't upgrade unless you have to.

I have not experienced the problem with quicktime. But through the apple forums I found a solution for the Finder preview mode. if you go to finder you can reset preview for some codecs, however I could not find the solution yet for DXV. Maybe someone else knows the solution of this, or can finish mine to make it better?

I had to do this to make my other codecs work in Mavericks

type this is terminal:
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs ApplePlanarRGB enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs SorensonVideo enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs SorensonVideo3 enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleBMP enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleCinepak enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleH261 enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleH263 enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleMotionJPEGA enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleMotionJPEGB enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs ApplePNG enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleNone enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleVideo enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleGraphics enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleTGA enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleTIFF enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleComponentVideo enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs AppleJPEG2000 enabled
qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs ApplePixlet enabled
for DXV I do not know the shortcut in Terminal

I don't have a 10.9 mac right now, but checking mpeg streamclip(Quicktime based) on my pc shows dxv named as "DXV compressor". I would hazard a guess that something like below could work.

qtdefaults write LegacyVideoCodecs DXVCompressor enabled

The DXV codec is in the standard Quicktime directory (MacHD/Library/Quicktime), and called DXVCodec.component.

I tried a few variations on the name but enabling via legacy codecs doesn't seem to work for me. The legacy codecs that can be enabled are all Apple's own codecs, not 3rd party ones like ours.

I'm also not able to open a DXV movie in Quicktime player in 10.9.2. I can live with quicklook not being compatible but is there no way to enable the codec in the player?

I know that QT will not preview DXV files when you hit the space bar but do you use the new version of QT X or QT 7 Pro to read files? If you are using QT X, I highly recommend you buy a 7 Pro license (https://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending).

Thanks for the tip. I am using quicktime x. I'll consider upgrading to pro, but it only really solves things if other people in my team pay for pro as well. For now I think I'll let them use the Resolume demo to preview content.

Why don't you and your teammates use MPEG Streamclip to preview DXV files: http://www.squared5.com/?

If your teammates have Resolume, they will have the DXV codec but if they don't, they can download the DXV codec at the following links:

PC: http://resolume.com/download/download.p ... taller.exe
Mac:http://resolume.com/download/download.p ... taller.dmg
