Best quality method to record Spout output

Post by ZYXT »

Hello, Im hoping someone could give me some advice.

I tested recording resolume via Spout to video recording software, Open Broadcast Software (OBS project)
It works fine, but the recording is a little distorted and less clear. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Or is it possible to get recordings that look exactly like the direct Resolume output?

I have all the OBS settings to mirror the resolution etc from resolume. Checked various other settings and all seems ok.

Or should I be using better software to record it?

Many Thanks!

Hmm, just having a thought that BITRATE is one option I haven't experimented with yet. Maybe that is the culprit? By default it was 2500 (i think).

Recording should be exactly what you're outputting so make sure your video settings (resolution and framerate) in OBS match your Resolume Spout output.

if you are compressing the recording, you will lose detail.
so your final file will be a compromise between quality and file size.
higher bitrate will produce better quality, but larger file.

ok, so I checked out OBS, you should set the recording preferences in the Output settings, I see the option to have lossless output, in the quality dropdown.
the bitrate setting is for streams.

Thanks for the input Ravensc and guys, really appreciate it!
Also had the output settings in advanced mode, so was getting too ahead of myself :)

if you are on Windows 10 you can use the OS built in recording feature. I just discovered it and tried it out. Let's you record the output of Resolume without using Spout but directly.
