Beat snap with external clock.

Post by SucculentHam »

Hello all.

I'm new to Resolume and love it so far.

I synchronize to an external midi clock and Resolume responds quite nicely for driving BPM driven variables.

I know I could tap but I love the perfection of an automated beat detection to drive the clock.

Certain features are not available when I use an external clock such as BPM counter showing the blue frame and beat snap.

Any way to use these features with an external clock?

Thanks in advance.

Ham.

Beat snap works with external clock, the same as with internal.

Have you made sure beat snap is enabled for the clips you're using?

Hello Joris.

Yes, beat snap is enabled for the clips. 1 bar.

When I tap a beat;
It displays in the BPM window - the small square moves around the larger square - impending clip launch displays a decaying horizontal bar across the thumbnail - clip launches on the 1 - light blue frame around the BPM square is shown (every 16 beats I think).

When I change the Midi preferences to an external clock;
It displays in the BPM window - the small square freezes within the larger square - clip does not launch - horizontal bar across clip thumbnail does not decay.

Not sure what to do next.

Ham.

Got it working.

With my previous Vj software I always had to have Ableton running first.

With Resolume I have to get Resolume up and running then start Ableton. Works every time.

Thanks Joris! Your declaration that these features do work was enough for me to attack the problem again. Sure enough it was something simple.

Cheers.

I'm about 6 weeks into Resolume and so far it is sweet!

Later.

Ham

Happy to hear you found the solution.

When synced to external midi clock, Resolume waits for a start signal to start the clock. This start/stop signal is part of the midi clock protocol and gets sent when you hit play in the master app.

So it doesn't really matter what order you start the apps in, you just need to wait for both apps to be up and running before you hit play in Live.

Joris.

Doesn't seem to be working now on version 4.5.3.

I have:

Ableton running on the same machine.

Identical Midi settings as in 4.5.2.

BPM counter goes to 2.00 when trying to use external clock.

Any thoughts?

Yup, that seems to be broken. Don't know what went wrong there, we're looking into it. Thanks for letting us know!

I installed 4.5.4 - Beat Snap with external clock is AOK!

Thanks very much Joris. You guys don't mess around.

I should have started using Resolume years ago.

Thank *you*, Ham. It was a stupid mistake and we wouldn't have caught it if you hadn't let us know so quickly.

The 5.0.4 fix list can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=13336
