URGENT: Resolume 5.x Crashes on MBP

Post by DayVeeJay »

I have multiple shows this weekend and Resolute keeps crashing. I'm in the process of reconverting all of this compositions 373 files to dxv (I've found a few that are not dxv). I can replicate this issue in minutes by turning auto pilot on at 500bpm. Activity monitor does not show resolumes process. How do I find out how much ram its using? I was hoping someone could take a look at my logs and figure out what the issue is. Thanks!

look for Arena in the process list, it should be there.

or you could open terminal and use
top -l 1|grep "Arena"|awk '{print "PID="$1 $2 " Memory="$8}'
to print out Arena memory usage

Hey DayVeeJay, a few questions for you:
  • I see in your log file that you're using both 5.0.3 and 5.0.4, did you just upgrade?
Which version of 10.11 are you using?
Have you tried removing the config.xml file from the Resolume folder?
Did you just install any new driver or software on your MBP?
Have you tried to create a new user on your MBP and try to run the same comp to see if you get the same issue?
Have you run Disk Utility to repair your disk and then reset both PRAM and SMC?
Also as a note, I just tested on a similar setup as yours and when I bump BPM to 500, my CPU usage goes up about 10%.

I see in your log file that you're using both 5.0.3 and 5.0.4, did you just upgrade? I did. Ive tried multiple versions and they all crash
Which version of 10.11 are you using? 10.11.2
Have you tried removing the config.xml file from the Resolume folder? Yes
Did you just install any new driver or software on your MBP? Perhaps photoshop?
Have you tried to create a new user on your MBP and try to run the same comp to see if you get the same issue? Just tried and it still crashes
Have you run Disk Utility to repair your disk and then reset both PRAM and SMC? Yes

Memory usage never spiked much higher than 400mb

I removed the entire effects directory and so far its running good. Actually it runs very fast without the vfx plugins. Has anyone found certain effects to be more problematic than others?

delayRGB and blur for example eat up system resources fast.

I think you're running into a problem with the Twitch effect on OSX and Res 5.0.4. You can either revert back to 5.0.2, or copy the AVFFGLTwitch.bundle file over from 5.0.2 the folder, then you should be fine.

Resolume was rock solid during my event last night. Would it be possible to have a mailing list for critical bugs and whatnot? A knowledge base might be useful as well :)
