Working on a projection show away from the projector

Post by skatsikas »

I have a long drive ahead of me (as a passenger) and hope to work on a projection mapped show that will all be triggered from a timeline in a DAW using midi. I will be away from the projector and just want to use the laptop to create the show. Is there a way that the output monitor can show the "arranged projection" (which is a screen within a screen) so I can see something close to what I am doing? For example: On the screenshot below, I want the Monitor Output to show what is only available in the bottom right window entited "Display".

Hope this makes sense.

the output monitor shows the composition's output texture, you can't change that, but
you can have the Advanced Screen Setup open and work in the main window.

Only thing I can think of is use the advanced output windows quick key to swap back and fourth.
You could also create another virtual desktop on OSX and use ctrl+ left or right arrow to quickly swap between the two.

I think iMultiviewer is what you're looking for.

another way you could see your output is to create your screen setup with the projector/display resolution, and then send the output to syphon/spout, and use a receiver to view the image.
on Windows you can use the example spout receiver that comes with the spout bundle, on mac OBS should work fine to view the syphon output.

Good advice, folks! I haven't messed with Syphon, so this might be a good opportunity to see how that integrates.

Syphon works great for sure but make sure you take a look a iMultiviewer because I believe it does exactly what you need and it's free. [edit: not free anymore!]

Where are you getting iMultiviewer for free at? Was interested in trying it out. App store has a paid version.
