Any chance Nvidia , MSI , Resolume , Windows , i dunno who , will create a fix for this ?
Of course. There was a similar problem on the first Win 10 release, where the output would go completely black. That was fixed in the Spring Creator's update. Now it's evolved to this on the Fall Creator's update, and it will eventually be fixed again.

By the way, VJs are not the only ones affected by this, it's a problem for VR gaming as well: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/faq/optimus/

Thank you , i'll sit it out , keep on searching for a fix if i find one i'll let report back.
Currently got this raised to 3th level support at MSI, the Malaysian "can you please reboot" service desk employee gave up already .

Had a lot of issues getting win 7 installed on the m2 ssd , then some more to get the intel hd driver to be installed before the nvidia as intel doesn't like it's 7th gen processor to run win 7 , but after some youtube guided tinkering ,
it works.

I can now choose between win 10 & win 7 , i have nvidia drivers installed on both and resolume too.
On win 7 Resolume behaves completly normal & stable , no glitches , even better frame rate than in win10 i think (too early to tell fo real)

A good fix for now

Ive run a gig on windows 7 x64 on this laptop now with resolume 6.0.6 and it works without any issues , no optimus , everything running smoothly, even better as on windows 10 i think.

Very happy with this laptop also , been running about 6 layers of full HD content , 5 fx layers , fx on groups , layers & comp , a lot of blend modes on one 1080 projector , everything was fine , fps between 40-60.
Temperature of the gpu went to 85° at some point , not using any coolpad

i activated the turbo cooler option on the msi and i just sat back looking the temperature drop to 60° over 5 minutes time :)

Hi!

Grimm90, I'm in the same boat a you with a very similar machine (is the MSI GE63VR 7RF, Intel 7700HQ, nvidia gtx10170, etc, like the 15.6" version of yours). I decided to install Win 7 instead of returning the machine.
¿can you help me get started sharing some of the links you used to make the win 7 installation work?

Thanks in advance

¡Salud!

Hey guys, So I had the same problem of the white output when dragging the advanced output aswell as not being happy with the average framerate (I have a GTX 1070 Max-Q btw). For last nights show I did Joris his trick of setting my output as my main screen. Everything went well without crashes, but the feeling of some notification popping up or my desktop porn folder showing up on the LED screen made me determined to find another solution.

So I did what every sane person does when he wants something to work and that is to install a new windows 10 update. The highly experimental new spring creator update (which you can obtain via the Windows Insider Program).
Boom. No white screen when dragging. I am not sure about the overall stability still but it is worth testing.

I do still have some framerate issues, although not extreme and I don't know if it's optimus related. Running multiple clips with one output gives me around 45 fps while the GPU is only loading about 30%. V-sync off and Power management on the performance setting. You should expect that the GPU would use more power to try to achieve 60 fps?

@rense : ooo thats great news im gonna try it out asap . Did any shows with this setup by now , how is it going since the april update ?

@3003 : I don't have links of that process saved mate sry .
To recap , you have to figure out how to add the NVMe drivers if i remember right for the m2 SSD , so it's the windows installer will recognise it when you want to install windows 7.

The other point will be getting the intel hd graphics driver installed on a 7th gen i7 processor with windows 7 : Intel will rebel. I found a youtube tutorial explaining which file in the driver to open and edit a line so it did install.
It's required to be able to install the nvidia driver :/

not sure about the links but something like this

?
Hooray! Same here, MSI - optimus- 1070 max-Q, went for the april spring update, white screen gone, fps above 60 if I run the interface on hd in stead of 4k, power max and v-sync off, but only after also upgrading the nvidia driver to 397.31.

So looks stable on: Windows 10 1803 - OS Build 17134.1 - nvidia 397.31

Not yet sure if I can play a show on it, but looks promising!

Hi
Late response here, but since about 1 month I installed windows 7 on that machine and everything is working ok, but just stress tested it for a night or two, no real work yet. Will test this update on the windows 10 installation, looks promising.
Thank you all. Cheers.

Any news on the win 10 update if its fixed ?
I would try it if i could but im living in a dead slow internet zone , i just can't download it until im in the city..

I'm still running on windows 7 atm that worked well for the last shows.
Im even thinking to delete my win 10 partition fully if this doesn't get fixed.
And lets forget about MSI trying to help anywhere here
