Beat snap and after

Post by Oaktown »

The beat snap feature seems to not let me release a clip as a "cut" unless I have a blank clip in the next clip. The release delay is not as long as the beat count of the clip but it's still present. If I put a blank clip in the next slot over it works as expected.

I believe this is a bug and not a feature.

I just tested this with the following comp (image). I've tried:
- I've added cut transition and cut blending mode.
- I've played with the transition time on different levels.
- I've used beat snap on the clip and without.

I started clicking each clip and ones in a while the blank. I'm unable to see anything that isn't working as expected. Am I misunderstanding the problem? Are you taking different steps to achieve this problem?

Thanks for the video. We're still not sure what you're trying to tell us.

Here's what I'm doing
1) Create a new comp. This will put the comp Beat Snap to 1 bar
2) Import two clips. Set their Beat Snap to Composition Determined

At this point, each clip will be triggered using a 1 bar beat snap. Ejecting by triggering an empty clip also uses beat snap. Ejecting via the layer eject happens immediately.

This is the behaviour in both Res 5 and 6, and what I would expect to happen. But maybe I'm missing what you're trying to explain?

Ejecting by triggering an empty clip also uses beat snap.
That's the thing!

Reading your post, I do understand now that it's a feature and not a bug.

I use beat snap to delay some clips when I trigger using column trigger so that forces me to add a blank clip after every clip that has a beat snap.

An empty clip slot will beat snap with the composition beat snap when launched after a beat-snapped clip.
So if you use individual beat snap settings for clips, then setting the composition beat snap to None would probably help you with this.
