Desktop window manager VS resolume?

Post by Hans_A »

Hi all

I'm testing performance on 2 new laptops. Both same spec (i7 8750H, 16GB RAM, GTX1060 w 6GB, 256PCIe SSD). Unfortunately also with Optimus of course.

Now resolume is doing not that great. One 1080p50 DXV clip, 1x 1080p50 output on hdmi, framecounter is showing 50fps, but during the clip it drops sometimes to 30, 35fps... Strange, because I've tested the same model with a 1050 (non-ti !) and that was solid at 50fps.

Now I was looking at windows task manager to find what's going on. I found Desktop window manager is taking quite some resources. When I close resolume, it goes back to idle like all other system processes. Screenshot/picture:

1. Does resolume need this process?
2. Why is it taking so much resources?
3. Could this be the cause of dropping framerate?

So far I have:

- installed all latest drivers (intel gpu, nvidia gpu...)
- checked nvidia settings (everything points to nvidia on maximum performance)
- put the laptopscreen on 50Hz with CRU (damn intel graphics wouldn't let create a "custom" 1080p50)

But no effect...

Hello Hans,
what nvidia drivers version do you have? If above 4xx.xx try to install previous 398.xx or around.
I also had problems with newest drivers and had to intstall 398.35
