FPS drop

I wonder if it's normal I'm getting fps drops every 2 minutes (5-10 fps during 1 second)? Otherwise, it's running at 30-60 fps. Resolution 2196x1080. 2 HD outputs. 2 or 3 layers. Dxv3 normal, without alpha, 7.0.3

My system:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
16 Go 1600 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 Mo
IntelĀ IrisĀ Pro 1536 Mo

tested on 10.13 and 10.11
The video files are located on an external SSD connected in usb 3.

I think it's taking more ressources when the outputs are physically connected. Without the outputs connected, it stays steady at 60 fps.

with apple pro res 422, I'm getting a steady 30 fps (25 fps in transitions) but no drop.
with h264 10mbs, I'm getting a steady 27 fps (17 fps in transitions) but no drop.

So, perhaps this is an issue with dxv3?

did you test it by having the media locally? without USB 3? same result?

Locally it works. Can we conclude that USB 3 bandwidth is not enough?

Strangely, the same project works well on another machine (more powerful desktop, better graphic card) with the same external hard drive.

Edit: it's the same problem with the big computer, just less often. So it's definitely a hard drive problem.

In theory, USB 3.0 (or 3.1 Gen1) are 5Gbps.
1920x1080p@60 are 3Gbps, so it's very close, especially in transition.

USB 3.1 (Gen2) = Thunderbolt = 10Gbps
USB 3.2 = Thunderbolt 2 (Bidirectional) = 20Gbps
USB 4.0 = Thunderbolt 3 (Bidirectional) = 40Gbps
SSD SATA 3 ~ 4.5Gbps
SSD M.2 ~ 28Gbps
