Latency between Ableton and Resolume

Post by dcotecol »

Hi ! :D

I'm working on a new show in which I want to controll video (with Resolume) and audio (with Ableton Live). I download LoopMidi in order to send midi note from Live to resolume with a midi clip. Its work very well. The problem is when I try to controll an effect with a fader or a potentiometer. Ableton send the Midi informations to Resolume, but there is a big latency, and the motion is really not smooth.

So, it's looks like there is a problem about sending multiple data in the same time (with a fader for exemple).

Does everyone have an idea about how to fix that ? I really need to controll my audio effect and my video effect in the same time

I've tried other virtual MIDI, as LoopBeOne, and I have the same issue.

Thanks !

Have you tried using OSC from Ableton to Resolume?
This too might be another way of conversion without the need for driver installs:

Thanks for your reply !
No I didn't try OSC yet because I read that to link Ableton and Resolume on the same computer, MIDI is the best. I think OSC is needed when you have multiple computer. But I will try it, maybe I will have less issue with OSC :/

Dumb question but are there any delays setup in ableton, and are there any buffers that can be modified? I haven't used ableton in a hot min.

Yes there is a buffers that I can modified. But it's for sound, not for MIDI, so it don't change anything. Anyway, when I launch a simple MIDI clip with a note with Ableton, there is no latence to send it to Resolume. Once again, it's only with the faders and potentiometers :geek:

Hmmmmm, I can see the latency is between Live and loopMidi (there is realtime data, so I can see there is a latency). So the problem is there... and I need to send Midi before send OSC

What are the machine specs, and what kind of footage are you playing?

I'm juste playing basic test footage from resolume (line scape), in order to test the configuration.
I have a PC with Ryzen 2700 + GTX 1080 + 16GO DRR4 + SSD for system and applications.
So, I don't think it's a performance issue .

Yeah, my money was on the conversion from Live to the midi driver adapter you are using, which is why I suggested OSC as I thought it might use a different driver (at least for troubleshooting purposes). What I find troubling is that it's not a global latency but only on faders, that has me a bit puzzled.

I have Live 10 on my machine, let me see if I can re-create.
