Problems with new strobe effect

Post by MaxP »

Hello,

First of all thanks for the 3.1.3 release, great improvements were made.

But I have a problem with the strobe effect, for which I really was waiting for.
I added the effect on each layer as layer effect, but if I activate it, the width of the video clips shrink to the half size. The flickering also seems to work well only at one layer, on the other layers there are unsteady pauses although the frequency settings are equal.

Has anybody an explanation for this behavior? I tried many different things but couldn't find a solution yet.

Thanks,
MaxP

Are you sure the clips that are played in the layers are the same size as your composition.
If you are looking to toggle a layer on and off you will be better of with the new TimeSwitcher mixer plugin.
Just check the blend modes combobox of the layers.

Hey Resoloooms,

I've got the same strange effect.

When I use the Strobe Effect for example on layer 1 with strobe opacity at 100% the videosize shrinks to 50%.
50% of my clips are doing that. All my clips are coded in DXV Codec.

hmm...any idea? I really need the strobe propper working on my next gig.

++

found a nother thing wich could be based on the same strange thing. All clips which have problems with the STROBE fx also have problems with the TRAIL fx.

50% of my DXV Clips are doing that.

Strange Trail effect ( like I posted before )

I had the same problem and found out, that my composition settings are 1600x1200 but clips are only 1024x768, so i scaled them all. The Problem might be the strobe plugin, as it takes the raw videosize to strobe.

Take a look here:

Thats the plugin i use for now, and its just working perfectly.

Cheers, Andy

The strobe effect has a bug, we fixed it and will be part of the upcoming release.

I'll consider this for the next update. But...
Strobe lights and epilepsy:
"Most strobe lights on sale to the public are factory-limited to about 10-12 flashes per second in their internal oscillators, although externally triggered strobe lights will often flash as frequently as possible. At a frequency of 10 Hz, 65% of affected people are still at risk. The British Health and Safety Executive recommend that a net flash rate for a bank of strobe lights does not exceed 5 flashes per second, at which only 5% of photosensitive epileptics are at risk. It also recommends that no strobing effect continue for more than 30 seconds, due to the potential for discomfort and disorientation." - Wikipedia
What is your desired frequency? ;)

hehe - thats good :-)

My video output runs at 50Hz sometimes 60Hz ... soooo it would be nice to have the option to flash with 25 / 30 flashs per second (fps) :P plus alpha flash with the same frequenzy would be awsome.
U know what I mean? Instead of black or white between each flash the clip in the layer behind would get visible.
