GrandMA2 on PC connect with Resolume on the same PC

Post by hive8 »

Is it possible to connect the GrandMA on PC 2 installed on the same PC as Resolume 6 Arena, without any extra MA hardware like a fader wing or a Node.

Its for testing out shows and show flows... as well as programming shows.

If it is possible could i get a little tut on how.

It won't send out artnet without some form of hardware or a node.

You can technically connect to the same machine if you have two Ethernet ports as MA will only send artnet out to IPs on the 2.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x range. So 127.0.0.1 doesn't work. But a node connected to 2 Ethernet ports works.

The Dot2 does do a free universe of artnet tho. Which you can use for testing. Dot doesn't load MA2 files but MA2 does load dot files.

One more question... Is bi directional communication with the grandMA2 possible.

Lets say i change the Global Composition Master Opacity in Resolume and want to send that value to the GrandMA2, how would that work.

Yeah, but you'll have to do an artnet merge, I've had LD's do this on different subnets so it doesn't mess with their regular patches.

Are you trying to merge data to a fixture? or trigger something in programming?

Artnet Merge is just an artnet input in setup in network protocols It goes straight to the fixtures.

To trigger you setup a remote input. The MA facebook group is also pretty nice and are great for getting to that next step.

100% !!

MA Group is who to ask for this one, as it can be pretty tricky, AND, you can quickly destroy a LD's day and show file patch if you don't do it correctly.

The only time I've done this was having the MA control Resolume, then having Resolume spit out fixture DMX pixel maps back into the MA, and then having the MA pull color value only out of that data and merge it back on top of the currently patched fixtures.
This allowed for the LD to control the position and dimmer but had the color be driven off the content being played on the Video wall (he also made an offset to have the color changed by thirds as well)

I would hit up FB or the MA forums on how to properly set this up.

Thank you for all the suggestions I will do that. I have resolume now fully mapped on the GrandMA2, now I am getting my plugin ready to CITP from Resolume to GrandMA2 so i can see the thumbnails on the GrandMA2

You able to stream an output over CITP? Thats super handy for previz, with everyone's custom layouts these days I got pretty excited with putting cat photos on mine.
