weird question

trying to find out the best codec, I am now wondering:
for a 10 sec clip, 320x240, which is the best kb lenght? I mean, what do you think is the best lenght... e.g. 2mb or 500 kb or 10 kb? of course it is related to many variables, but give me and answer just to have an idea...

personally i use ligos indeo 5.1 .avi codec - i find it excellent - you can keyframe it so it scratches well, and the image quality is very good.
When i encode i dont set a data rate, just set it on 95% quality. When running 320x240 clips, provided you have a fast harddrive (ATA100, 7200rpm) it works very fast on all layers with effects.
(its a free codec)
