New to mapping - Hospitality Instalation guidance

Post by stephan21 »

Hello all

I am doing some research on project for a new location for our company and they would like to project video on two walls at different depths (think stairs). I have zero background on mapping, but technically inclined (I run the IT department) looking for the ideal route.

Instead of going on for paragraphs about what I need at this moment, I will list what I know as of now and hopefully someone can help me grow this all. I don't mean to be vague, I started my research yesterday. Our time line to launch is end of May.

Thank you to the ones that can help!

Our space is very confined and looking into Ultra Short Throw Projectors.
Dell S718QL (we might need 2 or 3 of these and stitch them together)

The pieces of software I look to settle on are:
Resolume Arena (leaning this route from what I researched and why I am posting here)
or
Mad Mapper

Camera:
Is it possible to use a camera to help with mapping for our space?

The best place to begin is by watching all the training videos and reading the manual..

The most efficient way to achieve a good result would be to hire a professional to consult with you on the best methods for the projection and give you a lesson in how to use the software. ( I am available :D )
Then you need to think about content too.

You have not given enough information to get much advice on specifics.

Edge blending projectors is not an easy task, I assume that's what you mean by 'stitching together'.
Ultra short throw projectors are not best suited for edge blending due to the severe angle of reflection.

I don't know what your space is like other than 'two walls at different depths, think stairs' so I can't say whether using a camera for the mapping would help. You could possibly take photo's of the space and use them as an output guide to test your mapping plan in the advanced output.

Thank you Scratchpole,

I will look into this more, think of better quality questions and see if I can get a render of the space to make things easier.

Even though we would like to hire someone, the budget does not allow it. Considering we might deploy this technology over several locations. It is best to learn it in-house to save money and hire consultants as needed.

Thank you for your help!

Don’t set your expectations too high! Are you also going to do the catering and fit the roof? Specialists are worth their weight in gold.
