Do License Dongles require updates?

Say you register a 7.0 license onto a dongle and then the license expires online (meaning no updates to 7.X after 1 year), then after a year an update happens (newer 7.X version released). The license is renewed online so as to allow an update to 7.X and get another year of updates.

How does an offline machine which could be running a newer version of Resolume know if the above dongle license should be valid for the currently installed version on the machine?

Does a dongle need updating at some point after creation to allow future offline Resolume versions to see it as still valid?

In short, Yes.

Your license will come with 1 year of free upgrades. You register your dongle with this license, it will work with every release that comes within this year.
If you'd like to use a newer version than that, you can extend your license, install the new version on the machines.
Then plug the dongle into a machine which has internet connection and Resolume installed, start Resolume, and the license on the dongle will be updated.
