Maya. But the learning curve is big - takes a long time to learn and master, but arguably one of the best and most advanced 3d applications. I took 2 years of classes in it, but still think it can be learned from tutorials/books.

i use maya & max but ive also looked at avid xsi plus maxon 4d, but i gotta say maya realy kicks ass, but yes it does take some learning.
