Native support for Apple Metal

Post by resolumejunkie »

It is pretty embarrassing when LumaFusion on an iPad Pro with A12X can do realtime 4K60 compositing of multiple layers without problems, yet Resolume on a significantly more powerful Apple M1 cannot do that without dropping frames. OpenGL is deprecated on macOS. So is x86. ARM + Metal are here. I know this is a significant architectural makeover, and would need to coincide with architectural changes on the Windows side of Resolume as well, to support Vulkan. But, I fear that without changes like this, someone else is going to clean your clock someday with JV software that uses newer graphics APIs on these platforms. There is no good reason for an iPad app to be faster than Resolume on Apple silicon. In particular, since we are paying $179 a year for "updates." Yet, an iPad app is faster. Significantly faster.
