database with info (thumb, BPM,keypoints) from your videos

Post by alfaleader »

Hi, I just started vjing, and it works quite fine. But somethimes things would be a lot easier if these features were included.
When you have to search for your files (and want to see a thumb), it takes a lot for the thumb to render. Wouldn't it be nice if these thumbs should only be calculated once and then stored in some kind of database?
There could also be some things in these database that you have set up before. For example, you can save for each file already some keypoints and effects that look nice with your video. You could also make a good syncronization with your music because you could save your exact BPM from your movie...

Is this a good idea? (or is it already in Resolume ;p)

Hey Alfaleader

Those are indeed good ideas. The way they are implemented in Resolume Avenue, is that when a clip is added to a deck, the thumbnail, associated effects, bpm settings etc all get stored. So the next time you load the deck, all this info is there waiting for you.

Hope that makes sense. Be sure to let us know if it's different from what you meant!

Maybe even better, this info could be stored in the id3 tags from the video file (if this exists), otherwise an external file (so you could transfer your file with data to another computer).

yes, live search and tagging like most DJ apps would be amazing for decks, clips, effects, etc :)

Pretty much every VJ I talk to has struggles managing their content, or has their own personal workflow to keep things organized. So we definitely see the need for good file management tools. But a file management structure is very very far away from what Resolume is all about, which is reliable and fast clip triggering. So we'll take it into account, but it could be a long time before you see any progress in this direction.

Maybe collaboration is a way? That way Resolume wouldn't become a file-management-tool …

They have a thread over at gridironsoftware.com where they collect "Most Requested Applications". I already bought it and asked for implementation of VJ-tools. If some more ask for and consider buying it, the progress might speed up \\\ surreptitious advertising
