Make FX in Quartz Composer

Post by VJFuzzyBastard »

Resolume 4 looks really neat and all, but the one feature I desperately want still isn't there: The ability to make FX plugins, not just patches, in Quartz Composer!

Using Resolume on a Mac, I can't use Pete's Plugins. So my library of plugins and FX is a little anemic. In VDMX, I can make Quartz patches that work as FX plugins---just leave a gap for input, and VDMX can use it as an effect on whatever clip I apply it to. That means I can make as many FX plugins as I have ideas. But I can't do it in Resolume, and that makes me very, very sad, 'cause I otherwise prefer Resolume greatly.

Any word on when this vital feature will be active? Much thanks!

Hey Fuzzy

Believe me, I want this feature as much as you, if not more so. We definitely want to do it, but I'm sure you understand that the priority at the moment is on making the current Resolume 4 as reliable and usable as possible. After that is done, we'll take another look, but the QC community is unfortunately so marginal that it's not going to be very high on the list.

Thanks for making a separate thread for this, btw!

Yeah, I understand. But my big frustration with Resolume Avenue is that there's relatively few plugins for it (esp. now that I'm on the Mac, where the old Freeframe plugins don't work). I'd be more than happy to make my own, but it's tough to do that without QC!

Resolume Arena is a great software, but the QZ community is not marginal!!! C'mon, since the new version of QZ in Xcode and Kineme plugins, QZ is a great tool to make visuals!.
But... it is true that VDMX sometimes with QZ crashes a lot, much more than resolume.

workaround oh noooo,

my workaround:
take a camcorder , film the output of a separate composition , get it with the quartz composer video input, make your awesome QC FX, use it in resolume as a plugin.....and now enjoy being a great gothamist

i want quartz effects supported by resolume, as you have it in COGE or VDMX...cant be so difficult!

Would be nice to have Qz native, there are a bunch of interesting effects, and the possibility to make more

I see the Syphon work-around, but I'm already using Syphon to bring in other stuff! 8 - )
