Clip lock / Layer lock

Post by cosmowe »

Hey Resolumes,
would be great to have the possibility to lock clips and/or whole layers

useful in the following example:
Last weekend my client asked me to play a wonderful animated two hour countdown on top of my vj performance...
But then... after 1,5 hours I've made a madclick on a other clipfield in this layer = BAM! I Have to start the countdown again....and skip to round a bound 1,5 hours.
In my special case it was important that I play this countdown exact 2h.

Shure, why don't I took another pc and insert a countdown signal from that into my showmachine!?
Reason: not enough money on the clientside.

So if you like this feature >> +1

Tip for countdown: use a quartz countdown: that's connected to the internal clock of your computer so will never be off time even if you don't show it for a while...

Just saying you'd like a lock for a layer is far too vague. Lock implies so many things.

Here in this case, it's clear that you don't want another clip to be triggered into a certain layer. But should the opacity of the layer also be locked or should that still be accessible? What about adding or removing effects on that layer? What about the autopilot for that layer? In the current wording, we would all lock these things, because they are all tied to the layer.

Let's make a deal, guys: No one can +1 requests for lock features anymore, at least not without explaining in detail what it is you want locked and what you still want accessible.

We really need a good overview of what you guys want, until we can implement this.

Morning Joris and Happy New Year!

I remember sending a pretty detailed list of locking requests in a previous post: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10892&p=43441&hili ... #p43441but here it is as a quote to make it easier to track:
Personally, I would like to have the following locking options:
- Lock the media (either video or sound) so that it can't be replaced
- Lock any parameter animation in a clip, layer or composition
- Lock all parameters of any or all clips in the composition
- Lock all parameters of any or all layer which would prevent adding or removing clips from that layer
- Lock all parameters of the compositions with no restriction on MIDI/DMX/OSC input or external inputs.
- Lock any of the parameters in the advanced output options such as Screen, Slice, Mask or Crop as well as the ability to lock any point in the output transformation (by clicking on it)

Any of these locking functions would prevent changes from being made but should allow the clip, layer, composition to run in its current state which means all autopilot functions would be active but locked for editing.

I realize that it's a lot of locking options but typically, I design a show for companies and a tech will run it during performances so I'd love knowing that things can't be changed after I leave. As far as locking MIDI/DMX or OSC inputs that can be done on the controlling devices.
This is of course my personal list so it'd be interesting to hear from other people to know what they'd like or need.
