Edid management

Post by Grimm90 »

Hi ,

Im currently investigating the options for a 6 projector install that will need to be setup couple of times a year, everyt time for a week.
My main concern atm is EDID management, as there won't be time for a daily test, i need to make sure all displays are still in the same order after start up.

On one hand of the spectrum you got the uber cheap 20eur EDID emulators and the rather expensive but pro matrix switchers with EDID management.
And there is also the option to use Quadro cards which enable edid management in the GPU software.

What do you all recommend ?
Seems a bit silly to buy a quadro rtx card just for the edid mangement ?
Any mid price range solution that is reliable to work in a professional installation ?

Thanks !

Are you outputting via SDI or directly out of your GPU?

directly from gpu for 2 outputs over hdmi, one display port to datapath fx4 , last displayport for UI monitor.
3 outputs of the datapath will need to be extended over fiber.

I say use a Lightware matrix with edid management. Or maybe some HD Fury stuff.
I've had really good luck with these guys those if you want to try the cheaper route first:

But Lightware always get's my first option for just having something that works and is reliable.

Thanks for those brands, looked them up they got some decent looking stuff thats not that expensive for what it is.
Still rack mount switcher is more reliable, it fits a rack, looks clean.
Just don't get it why i need to pay for the switcher part as i basically would like a device that does edid management for 8 devices just plain hdmi in / hdmi out.
Ive used the smaller cheaper emulators in the past with success on simple installations, but not always.
