the encoding is still processed on the cpu.
the GTX580 should have more Performance in OpenGL (should be even better than an gtx680).
for gaming the gtx660 ti may be a little faster, also consumes less power.
for Resolume i would suggest the GTX 580 if your power supply can handle it
so, i take a look for an used GTX580... (some converters using GPU-power)
But i want more power than the HD5870 had, especially while using more outputs (6+)
the only advantage the 600 geforce series (at least beginning at 640) is that you can use all outputs simultaneously. With the GTX 580 you only can use 2 outputs... (but if you got enough Matrox or extra Graphic Cards this won't be your Problem).
I'm also very happy with my GTX285.... from my feeling this card is maximum 20% slower than an GTX580.
I think the 580 should be the best choice now, should also be cheaper than a new 660Ti.
Me is waiting for ne next High Performance Card from Nvidia with the real Kepler-Chip (which is already used on some Tesla-Cards.... should be the GTX 780 or so... lets see, i think this should really give us a really big performance step forward )
what Resolutions, how many Screens and which framerate you got with your System?
the next Problem switching to nvidia would be that the extra cards also should be NVidia-Cards.
i think with the GTX580 you should get better Performance than with the 5870, but i don't know if it's really that much so that it would help in certain scenarios.
Also i won't buy a 660Ti.... get a used GTX580 is much cheaper and surely performs better in Resolume!
My suggestion if you wan't to wait is the new GK110 or GK112 Chipset with 384bit Memory Interface (or maybe 512bit). This should really give a Performance boost.... but if you want it cheap you'll have to wait a long time, the new Cards ar settled about 900$ what i've heard!
mixing cards is no problem... but i prefer one manufacturer, too.
actually i use 6 screens, each 1024x768 (+ 1x 24" Mainscreen with UI and 1x 19" for searching aso)
Is there any performance profit? using a gtx580 instead of the HD5870? And are there any ATI/AMD Cards which are much better? I´m not sure what are the important things for the card using for resolume.
i think the best consumer cards are
1. ATI 7970
2. GTX580
3. GTX680
and as i said my GTX285 also makes good work
mixing ATI and NVIDIA i only know that my TV-Outs only worked on the first released Win7 drivers for both Manufactors...
I generally prefer NVidia cause of Cuda support and better Drivers..... for Resolume ATI is also a good choice, but if you use many outputs you should use eyefinity to have no performance-issues. Never hat Problems with NVIDIA-Hardware....
note that the extra Cards don't have to be the same Cards/GPU, can be a GT640 or even 610 for extra outputs... and it makes no performance differences!
yes, i know, but actually i got the best conecpt (for me) with the HD5870 Eyefinity 6, 6 Outputs each can be used as VGA, DP, HDMI aso. (just need adapter).
No other card had this flexibility.
For working (Cinema 4D, AE,...) i love nvidia much more, you said it, better drivers aso.
I think it should be no Problem to use 1 x GTX580 and 2 x HD5870 (just for the outputs). But the question i ask my self, will i see a differende between a GTX580 instead my HD5870 (Mastercard!, showing UI)?
And which is the best card for this job?
So you suggest to use a GTX580 instead of a GTX660ti? (more power)
the 660ti is cheaper (about 20€) and it has 2GB of RAM.
