Best DMX dongle adapter for Resolume Mac OSX?

Post by Kaizen »

I'm totally new to DMX, thinking of using Resolume Arena to control some lights via DMX.

1) What are pros/cons of using Resolume to control DMX?
2) What dongle should I buy to control 5-25 lights? Not doing huge shows yet.
3) Any DMX cable recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!!

I would get an artnet to DMX converter, it is future proof, doesn't need any drivers, you can locate it anywhere on the lan with cheap UTP cable.

I'm in total agreement with Ravensc's advice.

As a note, there are many Ethernet/DMX converters but they are not all created equal, so my advice if you're only going to get one for the long run, would be to get the Enttec ODE which is an industry standard and pretty bomb proof.

And even better if you can spend the extra cash get the Enttec ODE with POE (Power Over Ethernet) and a POE router or injector.

Cons are no native support for moving lights, gel colors, gobos.

If your straight led lights your great. No real downside besides doing certain effects will be harder then on a board.
