Eyefinity

Post by VJVertex »

Hi there,

are here any people using an ATI (now AMD) Eyefinity card?
I´m using it for about 4 weeks, but only with 1 projector, but now i´ll start to use it with 6

I bought the HD5870 Eyefinity 6 and i´m really happy with it. Before i used a GTX285, not bad but only two outputs

any tips for me?

Use active Display port adapters. I have found the Saphire ones reliable and cheaper than the ones that use a usb cable to provide power. Also if you were going for six outputs then you would start to get a mess of usb cables in with all your outputs.

I also don't bother to actually use Eyefinity over just using the card for multiple output. I like to have the taskbar on just one monitor. The one in front of me. Rather than on every second monitor. Also Eyefinity requires all the resolutions to be same. Which doesn't work for me. I like to have a 1920x1080 monitor for me, but most of the projectors I can access cheaply are only 1280x720.

Check if the version of the six way card you buy comes with DP adapters. Otherwise you are up for a fair bit of cash before you can even use it.

I have one - it's great :)

On the adaptor front it is worth knowing that you can use as many normal VGA adaptors as you like - i'm normally using 4 VGA and 2 Passive DVI on my card. This saves a lot of money and VGA can run further without needing amplification or (really expensive) fibre optic systems.

I too don't bother with eyefinity - just the multiple outputs works fine with the nice "advanced output" settings in Avenue. With the addition of the IRWorkshop Mapio plugin things get really interesting ;)
