Best Midi Controller

Post by Andthen »

Hey all

Whats the best MIDI Controller for Avenue? Read lot of Reviews and am confused. My Budget is not more than 600$. NUVJ and OHM64 is what I found works best for a visual setup. Please help.

hello,

however I am not a professional in this subiect I can recomend behringer BCF2000 midi controller,
it has 8 motorised faders,
16 + 4 illuminated buttons freely assignable to all types of MIDI functions
and 4 virtual groups with 8 dual-mode encoders they can be pushed (for boolean function) or rotated and work same as faders.

For me it works fine and is quite cheap, with your budget you can buy 2-3 of them, or buy additional controler with different functions.
I paid about $100 for mine but the price is aroud $200 for new on eBay.

you can read about them here:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCF2000.aspx
there is also different one:

Regards,
Jonek

Considered many cheaper alternatives, but I found the APC40 to be the most suitable combination of a lot of buttons and a lot of controls. There are a few downsides, but for the price, you'll come to pretty much the same by buying different controllers for buttons/knobs/faders.
Works great for me, if you can live without real LED feedback until Resolume gets an update to send MIDI out, i'd really recommend it!

i have an ohm64 and i think it's the most amazing shit since potato chips and hot sauce.

disclaimer: you will need to know or at least be sorta interested in mapping.

this thing is an open book. you'll raise it like a child to do what you think is best for a vision in mind.

no vision, then, no mind!

that being said, it'll teach you (ironically, like a child) about your strengths and weaknesses and lead you on a path of enlightenment.

you'll find yourself, like me, thumbing through discussion forums for feedback, implementation tools and 'how to's'? to sometimes find yourself alone, but of a niche community.

if you want to see your bones, then go ohm64. if you want something already destined to be what someone else feels is best, then go apc and all that other stuff.

Is a great controller, but.. Only you can define what's the better midi controller, is your setup.
My controller is the best one for my kind of work, but maybe useless for you.
This is not bored djing
Think about what do you need from a controller, then we can evaluate choices.

In terms of price and function; the Korg NanoKontrol is worth trying.

I'm enjoying the Traktor Kontrol F1 - it's small at only 16 pads, 4 faders and 4 potentiometers, and a few smaller buttons. But it has a second page which can be accessed via a toggle or piano-style button.

What I like best about it is it feels solid, for me physical feel interaction is a big selling point.

That being said it's not enough on it's own, I'm on the lookout for other devices to use with it or perhaps replace it.
