Tiling Multiple Layers

Post by gavspav »

I'm looking to tile different layers together.

I've managed to cobble this together with the Video Wall effect on each layer but it has (or I have) pretty limited control.

Say I want to duplicate the image on one layer like this:

Is there an easy way to do it using effects? I need to avoid using an extra layer for each copy of the image.

Is there something obvious I am missing? Hopefully!

Horrible looking post - sorry!

Come on people!

There's gotta be at least three ways to do this, someone help this guy!

PS, Gavspav, it might be a good idea to include a Photoshop mockup of what you want your output to actually look like, because now it's not clear if you want the layers stretched, cropped or stacked.

Advanced Output Mapping? (in case you run Arena)

or with just effects: try the tile fx (somehow horrible to adjuste, but doable) and put a mask on top

Joris, I want to hear the 3rd approach ;)

If you want the content stacked, you can go with either Tile or VideoWall and then use KeyStone Mask on the middle. VideoWall will keep the aspect ratio intact, Tile allows you to squeeze and stretch.

But there's at least three effects you can use if you want the content stretched or cropped. Any takers?

To be  too, there were no need for such a quiz, if there were the possibility to group such stretch effects. ;)

In any case, happy weekend!

Edit: I put in the Crop effect :D

fParameters FFGL plugin as Layers-Effect should do the work ;)

Thanks HerrNieDa for "marketing" my plugin :geek: . But how is it different from Resolume's built-in layer transform feature in this specific case? Seriously, if there is an added value I would very much like to know.

The FRParameters would be the fourth effect that makes it possible. The advantage of the effect is that you can set the opacity to 99%, so you can move the copy and have the original stay in place.

You can also do it with Slide, Iterate, even Shift RGB will work.

Just make sure you swap the render order so you transform first and then apply the effect.

BTW, I don't see how having the option of grouping helps if you don't know which effects to group.

normally i use the fParameter with add blend mode @50%...
if i want to see layer 1 on the left and right side of the comp, i scale the layer to comp size, use 1 fparameter effect for positioning it left, and an second fparameter @50% which positions the generated second output on the right side ;)
