Slowing, juddering etc. on Ave 4.1.7

Post by patrickdunn »

Hi folks - I've noticed on some of my compositions that fps is slowing right down (below 10fps sometimes) after a period of between 20 and 40 mins. I'm using quite large decks (c40 columns, c5 rows), but nothing massive. I use quite a lot of effects, applied to rows. If I re-start Avenue, it takes a while to go down and come back up again, but then it's fine for a while.

I've done everything suggested: all files are dxv, reduced rows, cut clip length, reduced effects, got separate account with not much launching etc.

I'm on a macbook pro, 16mb RAM, 2.7ghz i7, lots of disk space etc. etc.

Quick question: does Arena improve performance? I may well have to upgrade anyway, even if I solve this issue.

Thanks!

Arena has a few more features but its an extension of avenue.

how many layers of video are you using? What model MBP do you have?

what resolution clips are you using?
Resolume Avenue 3.3.3 - MBP i7, 8gb RAM - Snow Leopard (2010). Akai APC20

To troubleshoot these type of problems, Activity Monitor is a good place to start. Here you can see if disk usage, memory or CPU are spiking during these dips in fps.

Once you have an indication of what is the bottleneck, we can start looking at what might be causing it.
