H264 playback very slow only in Resolume

Post by bdeschryver »

Hey Guys,

I am trying to play some old footage and clips I have in H264 codec.
I know it is the worste for VJing and I am having most of them in DXV codec, but the question here is: a single clip at HD res in H264 playing in Resolume will play choppy and not show smooth playback (like random little short stops all the time), but if I play it simply using VLC or Windows media player, it runs fine !
Does this have something to do with the Resolume video engine ?
Decoding of a video codec is not standard and common on a set machine ? (no matter the software) ?

thank you

Just convert your clips to DXV and you'll have no problems.

If you use MPEG Streamclip, you can easily do a Batch List to convert multiple movies at once.

thank you fob67cry, but I know quite well how to convert videos and that DXV is better.
My question here is: why this H264 videos does play smoothly in Resolume although is does using VLC or any other media player... is it because of the Resolume engine (not designed for h264) or some settings ?

It's similar to asking why does an Ariel Atom runs so much faster than a Chevy Cobolt when they both have almost the same engine
