Can be done with Processing, Spouted to Resolume.
Use NI-mate to get tracking coordinates from kinect. In Processing run the MSAfluid patch and use the kinect coordinates to control particles. Many steps.

Or try ZVector. Lil different type of visuals but easier.

Visikord has spout output and has quite competent kinect support though not specifically with the effect mention above. The current interface is a bit clunky for VJs and it is oriented to audience interaction but there's an impending version 3 in the wings that will have spout in and out, I believe. The next version has no schedule for actual release though and is PC only. The current version is worth a punt at only $45 (on sale) and there's a trial version.

The new Mapio plug-in for Resolume has Kinect support...!

www.visution.com

Also, it's a pretty great projection mapper!

Trick is, use the Kinect when it's in standalone mode.

Hey I am looking for more information about this if at all possible! Do you know which Kinect specifically Mapio supports? and can it be done in a Mac environment? Thank You SO much if you can answer that for me :)

I'm using the Xbox 360 version 1473, you'll need the Kinect SDK 1.8 to run it with Mapio.

It's a little tricky... to use the depth mask, you have to put it on the Trunk (body) and scale it up in the settings. Then there's an 'enable' function for all the body parts, turn off the rest.

I've used it to fill a person's outline with visuals through Spout (or Syphon on the mac) and then Spout THAT over to Resolume.

Also, you can do this cool thing where you can track an image to each body part- new heads, bodies, videos tracked to your hands, etc.

Pretty damn awesome.
