ASUS laptops - which one is better

Post by rud-x »

Hi!

I'm trying to find the ideal laptop for basic VJ-projects. Please help me, which setup is better for Resolume. I'm also working on c4d projects, but not so many polygons (still learning), and some video editing (Adobe Premiere). My budget is limited to 1000 euro. I have an external monitor, so the size of the screen is not so important.

Yes, i know that a desktop PC would be better for this price, but at the moment mobility is more important for me.

Setup 1:
Asus GL552VX
Intel Core i7-6700HQ
16 GB RAM
1000 GB | 5400RPM | SATA | -,
256 GB | - | SSD | -
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M - 2gB

Setup 2:
ASUS X550VX -
i7-6700HQ,
SSD 128 GB,
16GB RAM,
Geforce GTX 950M 4GB,
(and i had an external HDD, 1TB)

Setup 3:
ASUS GL552VW
i7-6700HQ,
HDD: 1000 GB (7200) +128 GB SSD,
8GB RAM,
Geforce GTX 960M 4GB,

Any other suggests would be helpful also! ;)

Thank you very much!

Setup 2, highest VRAM, and SSD only...can't really go wrong there...for SSD though i would upgrade to a 256, cuz HD space gets eaten into pretty quickly but you do have the external 1 TB.

my 2 cents
HP Omen

i7 7th gen 2.8 GHz
Win 10 Home
Nvidia 1050 GTX

Asus G751J - 860M
i7 4710HQ 2.5 GHz
8 GB RAM

Thanks!

It has the same VRAM like Setup 3, and it has slightly newer graphic card. Why is it good to have only SSD? I heard that resolume can handle about 4 GB RAM. With higher RAM (16) would Resolume perform better?

Hey man,

Go for setup 3, it was just the RAM, was lower, if you can user upgrade the RAM and change the HDD+SSD to straight SSD then do so, this allows you to be able to do content creation, easier and your machine access data at insane speeds :D .

the GTX 960m is basically 25 - 30 % better than 950m, based on my simple google search, it may be more, so go that direction then, once the cost factor doesn't deter you too much.

you may wanna take a look at the Razer Blade as well...it has some serious firepower...
