full hd files projected on 4k monitor has a very bad quality

Post by davide93 »

Hi there,
I don't know if there is something I can tweak but I'm in a situation I need to play full HD stuff and the output is a 4k huge monitor.
The projections appear made of squares.
Please take a look at the attachments, you will see the difference between premiere and resolume output
using the same file.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve the quality,
apart to export all the materials in 4k of course :)

I look forward to hearing from you,

Davide

Can you share one of your HD files?

It's in Windows Display settings.
This video also explains what happens quite good:

now I notice "full hd" on 4k display,
They are already upscaled by Resolume, so you'll see some artifacts from that too.
Display scaling helps you more with 4k on 4k to not have blocking.
What was your display scaling set to, and do you see improvement with it at 100%?

if the scaling is an even multiplier such as HD (1920x1080) to UHD (3840x2160), there shouldn't be artifacts since every pixel would be doubled in both directions. 1 red pixel would become 4 red pixels and there would no visual enhancement to the low-rez file (HD) when viewed on a UHD screen.

As a note I'm using UHD (3840x2160) and not 4K (4096x2160 in my world) because I'm assuming that what Davide meant .
