Perspective warp

Post by VJzoo »

We got Arena as we wanted to use the integrated mapping tools but we keep running into issues with how it does perspective warping :(

We are even finding making circles circular and squares square on a building or surface frustrating.

We have tried the warping function and moving the points but it always ends up in content stretching/compacting in and out of shape as moves across the surface as you cant average the change over a large area.

We used to use MAPIO and that had a function to evenly compact across the output

Are we missing something in Arena that does this? I know it does auto perspective warping but that only seems to work if you are projecting onto an upright flat surface, not curved walls, floor projection and other odd shapes.

Looks like you are using the Linear warping points instead of the perspective points
https://resolume.com/support/en/output- ... on#warping

You can apply perspective warping by changing the four large corner points of your slice,
Linear warping by changing the four small corner points of your slice.

That's frustrating, both those modes dont help with anything that isn't a relatively flat surface.

What's the surface you are trying to project on?
Have you tried to set the warp points to bezier mode?
Or adding subdivisions?

If you could share some pictures of your objects we could better understand what you are trying to do.

We tried subdivisions but found that content went out of shape as the changes were not gradual enough.

I haven't tried Beziers without subdivisions and didn't think of pulling them out of shape to compact the content as it moved across the division lines.

Will give that a shot and see how we go, thanks for the help :)

Hi VJzoo, just curious if you have found a solution on this?

The beziers did do the trick without subdivisions but it can be a little fiddly.

Thanks, i will try that because we run into the same issue when edge blending 5 projectors in a cylinder of 5m wide.

I have a problem with a projection.
I have a angles projection and after I read this link: https://resolume.com/support/en/output-transformation I found the “perspective warp” but e don’t understand how I can activate the perspective warp.
In my resolume I just see “linear” and “bezel”.

You apply perspective warping by changing the four large corner points of your slice.

Linear warping is applied by the four smaller corner points inside the perspective warper points.
These points work the same way as their bigger brothers, except they do not adjust for perspective.
