A magic trick to switch between compositions

Post by psychodalien »

Hello guys and girls!

I always wondered - how do others switch between compositions during the gig? The problem is that video goes black when launching another comp. Switching between the decks won't do any help in case of complex composition - where layers are organized in different ways which vary from comp to comp. Any ideas?

Sounds like you’re at the point of needing two playback machines and a suitable graphics switcher. Depending on your final configuration this could be vaguely reasonably priced up to eye-wateringly expensive!

I have another workaround though. I can launch media player with footage in background while switching comps - but it's not a panacea.

Go to the Composition List Panel.
Expand the deck content of the composition you wish to load.
Select/Load decks (Double Click each deck) from the desired composition into the current one.
Play a new loaded video.
Remove remaining unwanted decks from the current composition.
You are done.
REMEMBER NOT TO SAVE

Thanks, Paulo, I know that I can load decks from other comps into current comp. But the deck from the loaded composition will reconfigure the layer structure of current composition. And persistent clips will replace current clips in current comp. So it's not a good choice.

I really am wondering why you want to switch comps when you're on a gig?
I use a fixed setup with layers, FX and such that I can almost handle blindly and would go bonkers if I would change that in the middle of a set....

Well...because of the complex and different setup used in them. The only way I've managed to solve this - is to use vertical setup, but sometimes it's pain to scroll up and down to find the required piece.

Good point, psychodalien, how did you eventually solve this?
