It seems like a good little projector that will do what you need it to do.

Actually, it's the other way around! With a 1.48~1.62:1 lens, at 1m you will get a 0.62 to 0.67m so to get a 1.5m wide image, you'll need to be ~2.3m from the screen.

I reckon the best projector for 3d mapping would be a bona fide laser projector. That way, whatever the surface, the image would always be sharp and in focus.

Currently not bright enough though but an array of pico laser projectors inside a sculpture would be mesmerising if you could drive them all.
