May you also check ALL energysaving configurations (OS and Bios)? Make shure everything is set to 100%

Especially when you installed Win 10 over your old system via the Microsoft Update-Popup in your taskbar it could be that your old energysaving configurations aren't reset in Win 10. ...might be.

EDIT://
Ahh.. just saw right now that you are talking all the time that videos are running fine in VLC.... But a vlc player can not playback DXV files as far as I know....so....did you installed quicktime on your new system....and...are you are using DXV files?...if not....try a DXV file after the quicktime installation.

Best wishes

Has anyone check for "Core Parking"? A feature that Windows uses to save energy by essentially stopping unused cores. I use to get micro video stutters all the time with all kinds of other video software. This solved all of that. I had to modify registry keys to get rid of it. Google "Ableton Core Parking" and you should see some good instructions.

The stutter comes from waking a sleeping core. For video, they just don't wake fast enough.

I am not sure if it exists on Mac. I am sure it would and they have some easy way to turn it off, unlike Win. Lol

I have the same problems with gtx 980's. Apparently resolume can't play videos smoothly. It's been documented in much older posts.

Not only that's a pretty strong blanket statement which is not really fair to the Resolume Devs but I tend to disagree with you!

I personally use Resolume Arena all the time on corporate and theatrical shows as well as art installations with sometimes really large compositions (8K+) and I don't seem to have stuttering issues.

To keep things in perspective, whatever media server I use is usually built & optimized for Resolume and dedicated to it so that I don't have any driver conflicts or background processes that get in the way. When dealing with any high end media server environment, a dedicated system is really the only way to do it so my first recommendation to someone who has stuttering issues would be to create a ground up system for Resolume.

It's not a blanket statement, like I said, it is a known issue. The developers have admitted it. I will post a link when I get a little more time.
I have a high end system that was created ground up for resolume. It runs videos just fine in other players like vlc, but on resolume a small amount of stutter is introduced.

Well then I guess we don't need this thread to help you troubleshoot it?

So are people actually achieving 100% smooth video playback? Like actual 1080p videos with people speaking and such, not just flashy motion graphics? I was under the impression from numerous threads that 100% smooth playback wasn't possible because of a known issue with the playback engine.
I've literally tried everything on my system. All energy saving off, core parking turned off, tried sli modes on and off, outputs on the same card as the resolume window output, dxv3 files. I am about to add an external audio card to see if that helps, but it's just frustrating when I can load a video in playback pro on a off the shelf Mac book pro and it runs fine, but when I run it on a monster computer with resolume it stutters.

My 2012 macbook pro with the GT650 is perfectly smooth until I start the 8th 1080p layer.

I do believe it is a blanket statement since your statement implies that everyone has stuttering issues which is not true. Stuttering is a know issue but not something that affects everyone as you describe since some of us who use Resolume on a regular basis don't experience the problem.

Same here, I use Macbook Pros with GT750M and custom-made PCs with GTX980 GPUs and I don't experience any stuttering in my video playback. Of course each comp is different depending on the resolution so the number of layers varies greatly for me.

The great majority of what I do is either cue based or controlled from an OSC timeline and I get to fine tune all my installations before hand in my studio so that everything runs smoothly.

I don't use any flashy motion graphics and all the clips I used are always re-rendered using Adobe Media Encoder and I typically use DXV3 high quality with alpha at 30FPS and 32 bit depth.

I bet if you plug a decent audio card stuttering goes off. 8-)
