This sends vga to the projector which is obviuosly a benefit in the club but in the end it's only going to be composite or s-video out to the dv-cam, you can't ever actually get a vga signal onto the tape.

I still swear s-video (or even composite) to dv cam (or dvd recorder etc) is totally fine. The vga recorder or dv-out scanconverter seems the only other options, but are they worth it ($500 to over$3000!)? Maybe if I had money to burn, but the cost seems disproportionate to the benefit.

Get a dv-cam with A/D built in via composite/s-video and some good cables if you want a solution on a budget that has way more uses besides. Get a splitter if you want to record live too.
