Agree with Joris, the fixtures won't know how you came out of your pc. Signal will be dmx by then.
I've used this ENTTEC node and found it simple, reliable and cheap.
I hear the new versions come with inbuilt web servers in them too so you can configure protocol and directionality with any browser.

They also do one with two DMX in/outs called the ethergate, i think a big daddy node called the datagate.
