New Mac Pro with AMD D700 - Glitches

I emailed and already got a response from Resolume tech support. But I wanted to post it here and see if anyone else has had issues and what workarounds you've used.

Basically, I have a new Mac Pro Tube. 32Gig Ram. 6-core. 1TB SSD. and the FirePro D700 card.

My canvas size is 3072x1536 (Using DXV Codec) And I'm outputting to two 1920x1080 DVI signals, and one 2560x1080 signal (Dual-link DVI). Everything worked fine for a couple of days, but now I'm getting stuttering... not dropped frames, but frames are playing out of order especially during high motion clips. I'm refreshing at 60Hz... but the clips are rendered at 29.97... and I'm getting roughly 30fps out of Resolume. It seems like the problem is getting progressively worse... which makes me think the video card might be overheating... or there is a buffer problem.

I had a thought of reducing my output sync to 30fps (DVI) and seeing if that helps, but not even sure if the LED walls will refresh that slowly. That's next on my list of things to do.

Tech support also suggested installing Windows, and running Arena from there too. I guess I'm not the only one that has seen issues with the new Mac Pro not performing up to spec inside of OSX. Obviously, I'd rather stay in OSX if possible, but since the show is less than a week away, I'll do whatever it takes!

I know I'm pushing the system pretty hard with four outputs (including the system monitor).. And I've made sure everything is appropriately on separate thunderbolt busses. But it seems like this shouldn't be too taxing on the video card... and certainly within the specs of what it's supposed to handle.

Anyway... If anybody has any info that could help, please let me know!

Four outputs should be no problems with that system!

Are you using active adapters to convert from Displayport to single-link and double-link DVI? If not, there is a good chance that's what's causing your stuttering. Take a look at my posts in viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11273.

Also, here is an interesting article on the new Mac Pro and GPUs: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7603/mac- ... ate-2013/9

Have you tested your system with just three outputs using a Matrox TH2G or DH2G:
- System monitor
- Dual-link DVI (with active adapter): 1 @ 2560x1080 double-link DVI outputs
- Matrox TH2G or DH2G: 2 @ 1920x1080 single-link DVI outputs

Also, considering the size of your outputs, I'm puzzled by your composition size. Why 3072x1536? How do you break that down in your advanced output menu to fit on your three show outputs?

I will have my guy try using all Dual-Link adapters instead. Currently, we have one Dual Link and two single-link (Plus a single-link for the interface)

To add insult to injury... I have a guy in Mexico working on this system while I try and troubleshoot from Orlando. Getting new gear and trying different options with DH or TH2Go probably isn't going to fly.. .simply because getting that stuff shipped to Mexico takes a while due to customs... more time than we have.

Also, to answer your question about the maps... They're going out to three completely different LED Walls that use different processing for each one. So... 3 discreet outputs are needed (plus one for the interface). The mapping took all of 90 seconds. Very simple. It's just doing some really terrible things visibly. For reference, I've attached the screen map. Basically, the Orange part in the middle is one signal. The left and right of that are in another signal. Then the bottom is the 3rd signal.

You shouldn't use a dual-link adapter for anything under 1920x1200 so I'd be careful.

Assuming your dual-link adapters are all apple adapters, they've been know to have flickering issues especially with older firmwares (1.01 & 1.02) so make sure you have the latest version of the firmware (1.03). To find out what firmware you have, take a look at this post on apple.com http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3232.

Are your single-link adapters active or passive? The Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapters I believe are passive.

Last but not least, if you use non-apple monitors, you might be better off getting non apple brand active adapters. As a note, the Accell B087B-006B-2 is my preferred single-link DVI adapter.
