Mapping LED Rings using Arena and AE

Post by gradek »

While working on a project I came across a limitation of the Resolume's LED fixtures. There is no support for non-rectangular configurations. I have a Adafruit NeoPixelr LED ring that was just not going map properly out of the box.

So I cam up with a solution in After Effects that converts a circular animation to a linear graph that can be easily mapped in Resolume. Until circular fixtures are natively support in Arena, this is the best solution I could come up with. I hope you find it useful. See video below for detail:

Nice work!

As a note, circular fixtures are not natively supported in Arena but as an alternative you could create circular patterns using single RGB pixels that are addressed sequentially. With the snapping feature, it's pretty quick to create circle patterns. The one in the video below took me about 10 minutes to create.

Hi Oaktown,

Good point on the single LED method. The down side is a very messy set of single fixtures that are not grouped together. I'd like to see grouping added as a feature request for this very reason. I have some more complex custom LED fixtures that are cut to letter shapes that would benefit from this as well. Currently each fixture is listed as E1, E2, E3, E4. When they really function as a single fixture.

Hello,

Is there any other software on windows that supports curved fixture?

When will add Resolume Arena Ring/Curved Fixtures?

Where is the problem to add something like this?
