Hi,
Just wandering if anyone had tried using the new Flash player in Reslolume
I heard it uses hardware accelaration and is much faster than Flash Player 7.
However, I dont want to kill Resolume so Im not sure whether to install it or not !

Maybe Bart etc would know ?

Let us know the results of your tests.
I can't install it right now because we are to busy with the new release. So it's too big a guess.
I had an opengl powered flash player wich is used for games and it ran blazingly fast, can't remember the name though. I supported only the basic actionscript commands but was much faster then the standard flash player. So i guess macromedia started using opengl to render their vectors. Wich should make it much faster.
Cheers

please do not try to install this flash player just before a gig! there is a very good chance that this will either not work at all or slowdown flash playback in resolume.
if you have some time before your next gig (enough time to uninstall and re-install flash version 7) please do check if it works because we are very curious
like edwin said we can,t try it just now because we need all our computers for testing 2.3 at the mo. but we,ll try in a week or so (hint hint) ;-D

Well ...after betatesting the flash 8 beta player with my webcontent for a week and found no problems I just tested the new player with resolume.
Short:

Works great !! No Problems or bugs at all yet.
If anything it seems even faster and more smooth now.
I get 60-20fps with 3 flash movies overlayed.
I tested about 30 different flash movies, timeline and actionscript based ones. I tested all my AS movies which use resolume variables ,text and resolume audio vars. all does work.
I even tested a few movies which were compiled for flash 8 and
use some of the new undocumented features like blur, glow, dropshadow
scriptable realtime FX for movieclips, blendmodes and more:
Look here for links to examples (with installed flash 8 player)
http://www.franto.com/blog2/collected-l ... m-examples
These new features work fine and fast in Resolume and open up a new world of possibilities with flash for VJing.
The future looks bright

and has already started.

Really a milestone! The first time since fl5, that macromedia seems to live up to its promises.
Very impressive features, massive speed burst when using cacheAsBitmap(). Plus filters, plus blendModes ... everything that i was missing and that director had.
But at the moment its quite hard to develop fl8-content, cause you need to use mtasc and you need to outsource every fl8-functionality to classes (.as files).
Plus i found a few bugs when loading and interpreting content dynamically.
