Feedback source bugs?

Not entirly sure if this is a problem but I thought the feedback source would work like regular layers, ie only affecting those below it but it appears to affect the layer above it too.
What can I do if I want to key, say, some graphics or text 'clean' on top of the feedback-ed layer below? Just now they get feedback-ed as well...
ALSO
When using zoom as a global effect to resize my output, this too has an effect on how the feedback effect works. For example if the output is reduced while using feedback+Ad the result might look fine but when I remove the zoom effect the feedback effect bleaches out the output. ie, global effects affect how the feedback source, in itself , works.
Not sure if these are really 'bugs' but that's what happened anyway.
